17-18th Cent. Elisabeth Farnese, Queen Consort of Spain.

 

Elisabeth Farnese was born on 22 October 1692, at Palazzo della Pilotta, in Parma, Italy. She was the daughter of Dorothea Sophie of the Palatinate (5 July 1670 - 15 September 1748) and Odoardo II, Duke of Parma. Her maternal grandparents were Landgravine Elisabeth Amalie of Hesse-Darmstadt (20 March 1635 - 4 August 1709) and the Elector of the Palatinate, Philip William of Neuburg. Her paternal grandparents were Isabella d´Este (3 October 1635- 21 August 1666) and Duke Ranuccio II of Parma and Piacenza. Elisabeth's parents were married on 17 May 1690. She had an elder brother, Alessandro Ignazio (6 December 1691 - 5 August 1693). Her father, Odoardo II died on 6 September 1693. Elisabeth Farnese married by proxy Felipe V, King of Spain (19 December 1683 - 9 July 1746) on 24 December 1714, in Parma. He was the son of Duchess Maria Anna of Bavaria (28 November 1660 - 20 April 1690) and Louis, Dauphin de France (1 November 1661 - 14 April 1711). She was his second wife. Felipe V married first Maria Louisa of Savoy (17 September 1688 - 14 February 1714) on 3 November 1701. They had four sons: Infante Luis-Felipe of Spain (25 August 1707 - 31 August 1724), Infante Felipe of Spain (2 July 1709 - 18 July 1709), Infante Felipe of Spain (7 June 1712 - 29 December 1719) and Infante Ferdinand of Spain (23 September 1713 - 10 August 1759). Maria Louisa of Bavaria died on 14 February 1714, in Madrid, Spain. Elisabeth and Felipe V had seven children. Felipe V abdicated to his eldest son, Luis-Felipe on 14 January 1724. Luis-Felipe died on 31 August 1724. Felipe V returned to the Throne.

Infanta Maria Antonietta Ferdinanda of Spain (17 November 1729 - 19 September 1785)

Her daughter, Mariana Victoria of Spain married Joseph of Portugal on 19 January 1729. Maria Teresa Antonia married Louis, Dauphin de France (4 September 1729 - 20 December 1765) by proxy on 18 December 1744, in Madrid, before they were married in person 23 February 1745, in France. He was the son of Maria Leszczyńska, Queen Consort of France (23 June 1703 - 24 June 1768) and Louis XV, King of France (15 February 1710 - 10 May 1774). As the new Dauphine of France, her name was changed to Marie-Thérèse-Raphaëlle. Felipe V died on 9 July 1746, in Madrid, Spain. Her daughter, Marie-Thérèse-Raphaëlle died on 22 July 1746, at the Château de Versailles, in Versailles, France. She was interred in the Basilica of Saint-Denis, France. Her mother, Dorothea Sophie died on 15 September 1748, in Parma, Italy. Her daughter, Maria Antonietta married Prince Victor Amadeus of Savoy (26 June 1726 - 16 October 1796) on 31 May 1750, at Oulx, near Turin, in Italy. Elisabeth Farnese died aged 73, on 11 July 1766, at the Royal Palace of Aranjuez, in Aranjuez, Spain. She was interred next to her husband, in the Colegiata of San Ildefonso.
