Prince Leopold George Duncan Albert of the United Kingdom was born on 7 April 1853, at Buckingham Palace, in London, England. He was the son of  Victoria, Queen of the United Kingdom (24 May 1819 - 22 January 1901) and Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha (26 August 1819 - 14 December 1861). His maternal grandparents were Victoria of Saxe-Coburg, Duchess of Kent and Edward, Duke of Kent. His paternal grandparents were Princess Louise of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg (21 December 1800 - 30 August 1831) and Ernest I, Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha (2 January 1784 - 29 January 1844). His siblings were: Victoria of the United Kingdom (1840-1901), Edward of the United Kingdom (1841-1910), Alice of the United Kingdom (1843-1878), Alfred of the United Kingdom (1844-1900), Helena of the United Kingdom (1846-1923), Louise of the United Kingdom (1848-1939), Arthur of the United Kingdom (1850-1942) and Beatrice of the United Kingdom (1856-1944). He was christened on 20 June 1853, at Buckingham Palace, London. During his childhood, Leopold was diagnosed haemophiliac. Prince Leopold of the United Kingdom married Princess Helena of Waldeck and Pyrmont (17 February 1861 - 1 September 1922) on 27 April 1882, at St. George's Chapel, Windor Castle. The couples first child, a daughter named Alice was born on 25 February 1883.

Leopold fell on 27 March 1884, at the Yacht Club, in Villa Nevada, Cannes. Leopold of the United Kingdom died on 28 March 1884, in Cannes, France. He was interred on 5 April 1884, at St. George's Chapel, Windsor Castle.
