17-18th Cent. Caroline of Brandenburg-Ansbach, Queen Consort of Great Britain.


Wilhelmina Charlotte Caroline of Brandenburg-Ansbach was born on 1 March 1683, in Ansbach, Germany. She was the daughter of Eleonore Erdmuthe of Saxe-Eisenach (1662-1696) and Johann Friedrich, Margrave of Brandenburg-Ansbach (18 October 1654 - 22 March 1686). Her maternal grandparents were Johannetta of Sayn-Wittgenstein and John George I, Duke of Saxe-Eisenach. Caroline's parents were married on 4 November 1681. Her father, Johann died on 22 March 1686. Her mother, Eleonore married her second husband, John George on 17 April 1692, in Leipzig. Her mother Eleonore Erdmuthe of Saxe-Eisenach died in 1696. Caroline  of Brandenburg-Ansbach married George August (10 November 1683 - 25 October 1760) in 1705, in Hanover. He was the son of Sophia Dorothea of Celle, Hereditary Princess of Hanover (15 September 1666 - 13 November 1726) and George I, King of Great Britain and Ireland (28 May 1660 - 11 June 1727). Their first child, Prince Frederick Louis was born on 1 February 1707.

Frederick Louis, Prince of Wales (1 February 1707 - 31 March 1751) Married Princess Augusta of Saxe-Gotha-Altenberg in 1736.
Anne, Princess Royal and Princess of Orange (2 November 1709 - 12 January 1759) Married Prince Willem IV of Orange-Nassau in 1734.

Princess Louise of Great Britain (7 December 1724 - 19 December 1751) Married Frederick V, King of Denmark and Norway in 1743.
Her father-in-law, George I died in 1727. He was succeeded by her husband, as George II. Caroline and her daughter, Anne supported the composer George Frideric Handel (1685-1759)Her daughter, Anne married William IV, Prince of Orange on 25 March 1734, at St. James's Palace. The music played on her wedding was by Handel. Her son, Frederick married Princess Augusta of Saxe-Gotha-Altenberg (30 November 1719 - 8 February 1772) in 1736. She was the daughter of Magdalena Augusta, Duchess of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg (13 October 1679 - 11 October 1740) and Frederick II, Duke of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg (1676-1732). Queen Caroline died aged 54, on 20 November 1737, at St. James's Palace, in London. She was interred on 17 December 1737, at Westminster Abbey, London.
